Xherdan Shaqiri shines in superb Swiss comeback victory

Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri played a key role in Switzerland’s superb comeback victory over Belgium last night.

The Swiss national side were 2-0 down before coming back to win 5-2 in a thrilling UEFA Nations League match in Luzern.

Shaqiri bagged two assists and was instrumental in another goal as Switzerland claimed top spot in Group A2 of the competition.

Liverpool’s No.23 set up the first goal of Haris Seferovic’s hat-trick before crossing well to allow Nico Elvedi to head home the fourth, and finally added some flair to the move that led to the fifth goal, which also completed Seferovic’s hat-trick.

Divock Origi also made a late substitute appearance in the game while Simon Mignolet was unused from the bench, according to LiverpoolFC.com.

Elsewhere, Joe Gomez’s England took on Dejan Lovren’s Croatia in another thrilling match in which England emerged victorious after a late comeback at Wembley, earning them first place in Group A4 and a spot in the Nations League finals next summer – Croatia were relegated by the result.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was an unused sub while Jordan Henderson missed out through injury.

Naby Keita also continued his return from injury by playing the full 90 minutes for Guinea in a 1-1 draw with the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations.
