Dejan Lovren insists Liverpool aren’t feeling the pressure of the title race

Dejan Lovren claims that there is no pressure on Liverpool in the title race, despite the Reds opening up a six-point lead at the top at the halfway point of the season.

The Reds face back-to-back top six ties with Arsenal visiting Anfield this weekend before travelling to the Etihad to face Manchester City next week.

Crystal Palace and Leicester City have both stunned the favourites for the league over the festive period, with Guardiola’s men slipping up and falling to two defeats in quick succession.

Tottenham Hostpur have found their way into the title race and find themselves only six points behind the Reds in second, and ahead of City.

Liverpool topped the league at Christmas for the third time in the last 11 years, leaving them in a great position for the rest of the season with eight of the last ten teams achieving the feat going on to win the title.

Unfortunately for the Reds, the only two teams that failed to win the league after topping the table at Christmas in the last ten years were Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool sides.

Lovren insists he and his teammates aren’t feeling the pressure, however, and their only focus is on the next game.

He said: “There’s no pressure, to be honest. In the previous years, yes, but now when you look in the dressing room, when you go into Melwood in the morning, everybody is happy, nobody talks about anything else than the next game.

“We can’t talk about something that will happen in five/six months, we go game by game and we will see where we finish.”
