Divock Origi explains instinctive reactions to score late winner against Everton

Divock Origi explained his instinctive reactions to turn home the ball in the 96th minute to win the Derby for Liverpool on Sunday.

The Belgian was brought on as a late substitute in the second half at Anfield and after a difficult 18 months, he wasn’t anyone’s go-to man to win the game.

Minutes earlier, he had hit the bar from 2 yards out, prompting angry reactions on social media but he refused to allow himself to become a scapegoat and won the game in dramatic fashion right at the death.

“It’s a special moment, I’m enjoying the moment,” Origi told Sky Sports after the game. “It’s a special moment for the club and the city. I’m very happy for it.

“It was just instinct, with the first chance I had I knew there was going to be some balls like this. I just tried to be sharp and in the end Virgil gave a nice end assist.

“I think I just believe in myself, it wasn’t easy but in football, it always makes you stronger [not playing] to enjoy the game. Whenever I come in I just try to help the team and I am happy that I could do it in this way today.”
