Ian Rush says Liverpool must reach the Champions League final again

Ian Rush believes that after reaching the final of the Champions League final, Liverpool must now do so again to meet the standards they set.

While they fell at the last hurdle, the Reds were incredible in Europe last season and came so close to winning their sixth European Cup.

As Jurgen Klopp’s side go into its last game before Christmas, with a chance to stay top of the table with a win over Wolves, it seems this season there is more of an emphasis on domestic glory but Ian Rush says Liverpool must strive to reach the final of the Champions League again.

Asked about Liverpool reaching the Champions League final this season, Rush was quoted as saying by beIN Sports: “I’d like to think so.

“Last season we may have overachieved, we did really well to get to the final.

“We’ve set the standard now and we have to maintain those standards.”

Liverpool progressed to the Round of 16 after a dramatic 1-0 win over Napoli last week, with Alisson Becker making a huge save in stoppage time to deny Arkadiusz Milik the chance to send the Italians through.
