Jurgen Klopp provides update on player fitness and January signings

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he remains open to bringing in fresh faces at Liverpool next month, but any new arrivals will be dependent on the injury situation faced by the Reds.

Speaking ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Newcastle at Anfield, the German manager reiterated his contentment with the squad currently at his dispoal.

However, with several players still injured or recovering from injury, the boss admitted the potential need for incomings.

“I’m very happy with what I’ve got and what I have, but how I said, we don’t know and that’s the only little bit why I keep the door open because if some things happen then we need to have a look,” explained Klopp, according to LiverpoolFC.com.

“Well, if a few more things happen then we need to have a look because there are a monstrous number of games still and it’s really important that we can always react.

“But as long as we can react then it’s all good, but how I said, if something will dramatically change then we need to have a look, that’s all. If nothing happens, then I would say we will not do anything.”

Klopp also provided an update on the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita, telling reporters at his pre-match press conference at Melwood: “Trent is back in training, in full training. We will see.

“Nothing new [on Keita] because it is pretty early, [but] nobody said to me so far he cannot train. I expect him back in training.”

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip remain sidelined, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is Liverpool’s only long-term absentee.
