Liverpool Loanee Ovie Ejaria “Unsettled” at Rangers

Manager Steven Gerrard didn’t have any conclusive answer to the uncertainty surrounding the player.

Ovie Ejaria’s future at Rangers appears up in the air today after the midfielder was left behind as his teammates travelled to face Rapid Vienna and local journalists took note of the player removing all references to Rangers from his social media accounts.

“I had a chat with him a couple of days ago and he’s slightly unsettled,” manager Steven Gerrard told reporters, providing little clarity when asked about the situation following his side’s 1-0 defeat in Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

After a promising first pre-season under Jürgen Klopp in 2016, hopes were high for young midfielder Ovie Ejaria at Liverpool, with some going as far as to compare him to Paul Pogba. Those hopes, though, were soon put on hold by to a serious ankle injury.

The following season, after failing to find minutes at Anfield, he headed out to Sunderland on loan, and this year the now 21-year-old followed Steven Gerrard to Rangers, where he has been a key player with 28 total appearances so far across all competitions.

He wasn’t starting every match, but on the whole things appeared to be going well. Then came today’s rumours in the Scottish press that his loan deal had been terminated, possibly at the behest of the payer, and that he would be returning to Anfield.

Gerrard, though, seemed at least to rule out that his time at Rangers was already done, insisting that the player remained a part of the club and that he would speak to him later in the week before any decisions were taken concerning his future.

”The next time I see Ovie is on Friday and we’ll have a conversation then and see where we go from there,” Gerrard noted. “Liverpool are aware of the situation and we’re in dialogue with them.”
