Lovren: We’ve Learned From Past Seasons

The Reds are first at Christmas, but Lovren knows there’s plenty more work to do.

Liverpool are having a spectacular season. They’ll be first in the league at Christmas. They’re unbeaten in 18 games, having won 15 of those and picking up 11 clean sheets along the way, including Friday’s 2-0 victory over Wolves. New goalkeeper Alisson has only allowed seven goals past him in the league.

The game at Molineux Stadium was a tough match. Wolves were strong opponents who came into the match having won their previous three. They clearly intended to play against the Reds instead of hoping to hold on for a draw, and as a result had several close chances over the course of the 90 minutes.

Liverpool held firm though, getting the win and the clean sheet.

Dejan Lovren recognizes the importance of their win.

“It was a tough game but we showed our quality and our experience,” Lovren told the official site.

“I’m sure if we had played a couple of seasons ago here we would have struggled. We have learned from these previous seasons how to play these difficult games and we did it quite well.

“In some difficult times we kept the ball and sometimes we showed, like the boss said, this matureness and this readiness again when we lose the ball to be there and to stay hungry to the end of the game because we know what we are playing for. It’s the three points and this is all that matters.

“It wasn’t an easy pitch with the rain and everything but again we showed the quality, everyone was believing and everyone was ready from the beginning. It was, trust me, a big three points.”

The next big challenge for the Reds will be Newcastle on Boxing Day.
