Liverpool face Arsenal this weekend and ahead of the huge Premier League clash, Unai Emery has revealed that he considered signing Mohamed Salah for Paris-Saint Germain but decided against it.

The Egyptian has been the best forward in England since the start of last season, scoring an incredible 43 goals in the Premier League and cost Liverpool a miserly £36million.

Emery says that PSG looked at the forward but weren’t convinced of his ability to perform at a ‘big team’ and ultimately decided against signing him.

“We spoke about the possibility to sign Salah to Paris St Germain when he was playing at Roma,” said Emery.

“We had some doubts – and then he signed for Liverpool and these doubts he has broken at Liverpool. Now, if you are speaking about the five top players in the world, one is Salah.”

When pressed on exactly what doubts he had about the Egypt international at the time, Emery replied: “How he can take the performance in one big team. For example like PSG in Paris.

“And today I can say to you… if we sign him, we sign one player in the top five in the world.”
