Xherdan Shaqiri has revealed the importance of his relationship with manager Jurgen Klopp, claiming it is the foundation to his successful start at Liverpool.

The £13million summer signing from Stoke City stole the show at Anfield against Manchester United when he bagged twice to give Liverpool their first Premier League win over their rivals for over four years.

He also took his goals tally to five in 17 appearances, during which time Shaqiri has also directly created three goals for his teammates.

The Switzerland star has put his fast start down to the great relationship he has with his manager, claiming it is ‘the most important thing’ for him.

“The manager is, for me, the most important thing. He wanted me to come here and from the beginning we had some very good conversations, and also funny conversations!

“I feel very good with him and it is important to have a good relationship with the coach. I like that he is very modest, a very good character and you can joke with him – but on the other side of things you have to perform.

“That’s important to be successful together and I hope we can have a lot of successful times at Liverpool.”

The Reds are currently unbeaten and sit top of the Premier League, with a four point margin over their closest challengers, Manchester City.

Shaqiri is confident Liverpool can keep up their fine form during the packed fixture list that the winter months bring.

He said: “When we play so many games like this it is very difficult, so we just have to stay focused for every game and work hard in training. Every game has its own story so we have to close the last game and prepare for the next one.”
