Firmino: I Will Never Be Satisfied

The Brazilian forward talks about his goals at Anfield.

It’s not very often your favourite football players give you carte blanche to quote the entirety of a musical about the United States’ founding fathers, but Roberto Firmino is no ordinary player. The Liverpool number 9 surpassed Philippe Coutinho’s record to become the highest scoring Brazilian player in the history of the Premier League in December when Liverpool beat Arsenal 5-1. Firmino netted three of those goals, scoring his first career hat-trick.

“I’m very proud but really I don’t want to stop there,” Firmino said after Liverpool’s victory over Crystal Palace. “I want to crack on and grow and develop even further and make a name for myself.”

“I am proud but never satisfied,” he added, channeling his inner Angelica Schuyler. “I always want more, to grow and develop further every day with objectives and targets to achieve.”

Firmino has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s season so far, and has luckily been at peak fitness for most of it (let’s try to all forget the horrifying eye injury from the start of the season).

“I’m really happy to be playing all the time of course, and I’m in good physical health, thank God,” Firmino said. “As long as I’m fit I want to play all the time, helping the team towards victory. I’m very content and hope to be playing even more.”

“Yes, I loved it,” Firmino added about the Arsenal hat-trick. “For some time now I’ve been wanting to score my first hat-trick so I was really happy. My teammates all signed the ball afterwards, and it’s already on display on my wall next to the man of the match trophy. It was a very special day and hopefully there will be more to come during my career.”

Firmino and the rest of the team will return to work (work!) on Wednesday against Leicester City.
