Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Move for Adrien Rabiot in Deadline Day Shocker

It’s not actually going to happen, but if you want to get your hopes up...

Liverpool won’t be bringing in Adrien Rabiot today, with Jürgen Klopp telling fans not to expect new signings and club-connected journalists saying there will be no incomings. But if you want to get your hopes up in the meantime, that’s on you.

And if you do want to get your hopes up, Sport are saying today that Adrien Rabiot could sign for Liverpool before the window closes, with PSG looking to make a few quid back now rather than allowing him to depart on a free in the summer.

Sport are best known as Barcelona’s mouthpiece in the Spanish press, and Rabiot has long been talked up as a strong Barcelona lean, so there’s at least some sense to them having insight into where his future might lie—or where it might not.

Plus there’s the part where Rabiot turned down the opportunity to move to Tottenham last week, suggesting that maybe a more appealing destination—whether Barcelona, Bayern, Liverpool, or someone else—really does exist for the 23-year-old.

Still, given the noises being made from the Liverpool end it would be a shock to see him making the deadline day switch, and for all Rabiot’s talent it’s worth noting that his form in Ligue 1 this season has not been especially noteworthy.

Even if he did arrive, it’s likely the point of doing a deal now would be to allow him to spend the next six months getting adjusted to the demands of Jürgen Klopp and the Premier League and that he wouldn’t play significant minutes.

So. It’s not going to happen, at least if you believe Klopp and Liverpool. And if it somehow did happen it probably wouldn’t make much of a difference for the current campaign. But if you want to get your hopes up, this is your chance.
