Andy Robertson Says the Anfield Atmosphere Can Inspire Liverpool Against Bayern Munich

The Liverpool left back knows the value of the Anfield support to the players.

With the Liverpool team returning to Melwood today from their warm weather training camp in Marbella, Spain, the build-up to Tuesday’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich can really kick into high gear. The German giants will go to Anfield prepared to face up against all the powers of a side that went to the final of the competition last season but will Bayern players be ready for the unrelenting spirit in the Anfield atmosphere on European nights.

Andy Robertson recently praised the home supporters for doing the good work in the stadium. The Liverpool left-back knows more than most what an important part a loyal and wildly enthusiastic fan base is to winning football matches.

“Everyone knows how special nights here are in the Champions League,” Robertson said.

“We feed off each other. Players feed off the fans and the fans feed off the players because it’s up to us to get them to have something to shout about.

“But it also helps when they’re getting behind us and it can maybe give you that extra percentage or whatever in the game. That’s what home fans are for.

“I think that’s what all good teams do. We had a good run last season. And especially in the Champions League I think it helped massively.

“Every club’s got it and it’s all about making the most of it.”

After the Bayern match, Liverpool’s next game will be at Old Trafford. A win against Manchester United is necessary on many levels but most importantly on the Points level. Three points would send Liverpool back into first place in the Premier League and put the pressure back on Manchester City to respond.

But Robertson isn’t considering the United game at all and says the team is solely committed to the task of walking out winners from Tuesday night’s bout with Bayern.

“They are two massive games,” said Robertson. “In Marbella our full focus is on the Bayern Munich game, we need to be full-throttle for that game.

“They are such a good team and they have been the last six or seven years so we know what a tough task it will be.

“But we believe we can cause any teams problems and we have to be at our best.”
