Jürgen Klopp Says Liverpool Will “Have to Fight Until the Last Matchday”

The Liverpool manager is under no illusions that his side ever had the Premier League wrapped up and wants supporters to embrace the fight to win it all.

Ahead of Liverpool’s match against Bournemouth, Jürgen Klopp took issue with the disappointment many have expressed after his team’s previous back to back draws. The manager continues to preach peace, love and understanding given that Liverpool have been performing outstandingly this season despite the recent blips against Leicester City and West Ham United.

Klopp tried to provide some perspective on Liverpool’s season so far and the road that lies ahead. He knows all the things being said about his team’s last two matches but Klopp can only look forward to Bournemouth and beyond. The league was always predicted to be extremely competitive this season and that’s exactly how it’s panning out.

“For us, I did not see what they all say they can see in our faces,” Klopp said.

“When I talked to the referee after the game (at West Ham) they said: ‘Now he is nervous.’ I did not think it but I cannot change it.

“I am not. I knew this would be a really tough race and here we are.

“There was never a guarantee this season. People always wanted the biggest gap in the world, pretty much, 25 points, whatever, and then only three games to go. That’s nice, but it’s not the reality.

“The reality is that if you want to be champions of the league, you have to fight until the last matchday. That is completely normal and what we have to do.

“To be in that fight is very positive – a big achievement – and we have to make sure the people see that again on Saturday.

“We have no influence if people want to be overly critical. We can not change that immediately. What is on offer is a tight race until the last matchday.

“Make yourself ready. Fasten the seatbelts and let’s go.”

Manchester City and Tottenham want to win the Premier League just as much as Liverpool and there’s still plenty of time for more twists and turns before the season ends. Expecting the unexpected may be the only way to enjoy the ride.
