West Ham Hand Over Salah Racial Abuse Evidence To Police

The London club secured video evidence of a fan directing slurs at the Liverpool star during Wednesday’s match.

Football, unlike much other, can bring out both the very best and the absolute worst in human nature.

One example of the latter is an incident that occurred during Wednesday’s 1-1 draw between Liverpool and West Ham in the London Stadium. A Twitter posted a video of Reds star, Mohamed Salah taking a corner to the background boos of heckling Hammers fans.

However, one fan in particular can be heard yelling racist, Islamophobic epithets at the Egyptian forward over the rest of the other supporters.

The unseen person yells:

‘Salah, you f***ing Muslim, f***ing Muslim c***. F*** off’

West Ham authorities have procured their own video evidence of the incident and have handed over to the Metropolitan Police, who told reporters that they are reviewing to aid in their investigation.

”After a thorough and immediate investigation following the abhorrent racist abuse aimed at Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah on Monday night, West Ham United can confirm that it has handed evidence to the Metropolitan Police,” the London club said in a statement.

“The club is unequivocal in its stance — such abuse will not be tolerated. There is no place or excuse for this kind of behaviour.”

West Ham manager, Manuel Pelligrini was also vociferous in condemning the abuse: “That cannot happen in the stadium.”

“The best way to manage those things out of the game is to remove them from the great spectacle that is the Premier League.

“We must have high standards and when this happens, you must take action. The club cannot accept these kind of things in the game. These people must be punished as soon as we can.”

Recent incidents in which players like Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling have suffered racial abuse suggest that an extended ban for the fan in question could be the outcome if the investigation does implicate an individual.
