Ajax centre-back fuels transfer speculation after comments about Van Dijk

Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax believes Virgil van Dijk is one of the top centre-backs in world football right now.

De Ligt has been linked with a move to Liverpool for some time, and despite his age (19), he’s already considered a formidable talent in the game.

Speaking to the media recently, the Dutchman revealed his admiration for Liverpool’s record defender.

“I can name three defenders who are very good,” he said. “I think Sergio Ramos is a very good defender. Gerard Pique as well, and of course my compatriot Virgil van Dijk.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Jurgen Klopp will make a move for De Ligt in the summer, with a host of other top sides circling him after Ajax’s superb run in the Champions League this season.
