Rumour Mongering: Wolves Lead Race For Liverpool Starlet

The academy graduate has been mooted to Wolves in a week of links between the two clubs.

Barely a day after the gossip mill tipped Liverpool for a summer move for the salivating-good Ruben Neves, the rumour mongerers have formally closed the loop, linking his current employers, Wolverhampton Wanderers to Reds starlet Rafael Camacho. The young winger will enter the final year of his current contract in June leading to the likes RB Leipzig, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon joining Wolves the chase for the £10m-rated player.

After a positive preseason, Camacho made his full debut early in the season in the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup, impressing in his right back role. Only 18 years of age, the ex-Sporting Lisbon youngster has gone on to shine for the Liverpool reserves, registering five goals and five assists so far this campaign while playing across the forward line.

Nuno Espirito Santos’ spirited side have a chance to secure European football next term if they are able lock up the Best of The Rest title before they lose to Liverpool on the final day of the domestic season, and are subsequently already looking to strengthen going into the 2019-20 campaign.

Camacho has the distinction of joining the select number of youth team members to have impressed Jürgen Klopp enough to play for the first team and is a bright prospect for an up and coming Premier League side like Wolves.

Even were the promising Portuguese youngster to leave, Liverpool Sporting Director, Michael Edwards’ glittering albeit brief record in the outbound transfer market would suggest that a deal with Wolverhampton will somehow net Camacho’s compatriot Ruben Neves, £2m and a standing invitation to box seat seating at all Wolves games. The summer will tell.
