De Ligt’s next destination narrowed to Liverpool or Barcelona by Ajax director
Edwin van der Sar has revealed that Matthijs de Ligt will be allowed to leave Ajax in the summer, according to reports.
The 19-year-old defender suffered a devastating blow last night when Tottenham knocked his side out of the Champions League semi-final with a last-minute winning goal courtesy of Lucas Moura.
However, the club’s run to the latter stages of the tournament has placed De Ligt firmly in the spotlight, with a number of clubs keen to secure him this summer.

Manchester United were one of the clubs interested in signing him, but were left embarrassed recently when the player rejected their advances.
And now, it appears that Liverpool are leading the chase for the talented teenager, with Barcelona and Juventus also circling.
Van de Sar, however, seemed to rule the player out of a move to Italy in a recent interview, leaving the Reds and Barcelona as the main contenders.
“I think these will be De Ligt’s final games with Ajax, but I hope he goes out on a high,” Van der Sar said, before denying that an Italian switch could happen.
He added: “He’s been here since he was a child and will end up at a big club. I think he’ll go to England or Spain.”
