Liverpool’s “Togetherness is Very Strong” Says Xherdan Shaqiri

The Swiss-Albanian winger believes in the power of togetherness.

At times this past season, Xherdan Shaqiri probably didn’t play quite as many minutes as he might have ideally wanted. Such is life, sometimes, when you’re part of one of the best squads in the world.

When it mattered, though, when he was given the chance, he delivered, playing a key role in an eventual 97-point season—with one very, very important game still to come for Shaqiri and his teammates.

“All together, we can achieve a lot,” he noted during a break in training. “We saw that, especially against Barcelona. We had a few players who didn’t play, so we showed our togetherness is very strong.”

Some fans have bemoaned another warm weather camp given the team appeared to stumble after past breaks this season, but Shaqiri at least seems certain that the bonding opportunities are worth it.

Plus, Liverpool aren’t the only ones having to keep themselves occupied—and trying to stay match fit—during this three week break before the Champions League final, with opponent Tottenham in the same position.

“It’s always good to go to a training camp together,” Shaqiri added. “To stay all day together, to enjoy the sun, to train hard for the group. It gives you strength for the coming days and hopefully the game.

“We feel very good. We are training very hard and preparing every second for this game. Thinking about the game and preparing is the most important thing.”
