RB Leipzig boss drops significant hint about Timo Werner’s future

Ralf Rangnick, manager of RB Leipzig, has seemingly confirmed that Timo Werner will leave this summer, according to the Mirror.

Werner has one year remaining on his current deal but is not willing to sign an extension, and talks have now come to a conclusion.

The quotes from Rangnick will come as a further boost for clubs pursuing Werner’s signature, with Liverpool reportedly among those keen to sign him.

Rangnick said: “Our position is that if he does not renew the contract, he should change clubs.

“He would first have to agree with a club and this club would have to contact RB, which has not happened to my knowledge.”

Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff recently suggested that the 23-year-old would be interested in a move to Liverpool.

“Last year we certainly didn’t play football like we did in the season before. We have submitted an offer and we know that Timo would rather not extend – but that can still change,” he said.

“Maybe he doesn’t want to go to Bayern Munich. Maybe he wants to go to Thomas Tuchel in Paris or, I have no idea, maybe to Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool or Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund.”

Liverpool are very much in the market for a new striker with Daniel Sturridge set to leave this summer.
