Reds set to battle Chelsea for 22-year-old Ajax striker

Chelsea could be set to join Liverpool in the race for the signature of Ajax striker David Neres, according to the Independent.

The Stamford Bridge club had been hopeful of securing Luka Jovic of Eintracht Frankfurt, but the Serbian is now on the verge of a move to Real Madrid.

The Blues have now turned their attention to Neres, but everything hinges on whether or not their transfer ban will be overturned.

FIFA have imposed a two-window ban on Chelsea signing any new players but the club are moving ahead with potential deals in case the Court of Arbitration for Sport rules in their favour.

Liverpool, however, are also in for a new striker with Daniel Sturridge set to leave the club this summer, and despite links with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, are interested in 22-year-old Neres.

The forward has scored 10 goals in 42 matches for the Eredivisie side this season.
