Tom Werner on why Coutinho “probably regrets” Liverpool exit

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner says he thinks Philippe Coutinho “probably regrets” leaving the Reds for Barcelona.

The Brazilian midfielder left Anfield in January 2018 for around £105million but has since failed to impress at the Nou Camp.

And Werner believes it’s now clear the ‘Little Magician’ made the wrong move leaving Liverpool.

“I would just point to the story of Philippe Coutinho,” Werner said, as quoted by the Echo .

“I have only good things to say about Philippe. But I think he left Liverpool because he wanted to play for one of the two big Spanish clubs.

“We tried to convince him that we had the club moving in the right direction and that he could experience big Champions League occasions by staying at Liverpool. I think he probably regrets his decision.”

Coutinho is likely to leave Barcelona this summer, though his huge wage demands will severely limit the number of clubs able to sign him.
