James Milner and Joel Matip set for new contracts at Liverpool

Liverpool are set to hand new contracts to James Milner and Joel Matip after the Champions League final, according to the Telegraph.

Milner has one year left on his current deal, and despite his age (33), Jurgen Klopp is keen to extend the midfielder’s time at Anfield until at least 2021.

According to the Telegraph, Liverpool view their arrangement with the vice-captain in the same way Alex Ferguson approached his veteran players, reviewing their contracts towards the end of each season.

Keeping a player of Milner’s quality and experience at Anfield would be a huge bonus for Klopp as he continues to strengthen and develop his side.

Matip, similarly, has one year left on his contract going into next season after joining on a free transfer in 2016.

The centre-back has enjoyed a superb second half to the season alongside Virgil van Dijk and Klopp is eager to retain his services at Anfield.
