Klinsmann explains why “humble” Klopp is perfect for Liverpool

Jurgen Klinsmann has praised Reds boss Jurgen Klopp after he guided his side to a hard-fought Champions League final win on Saturday, according to the Mirror.

Liverpool withstood a Tottenham onslaught in Madrid to claim their sixth European trophy, with Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi scoring the only goals of the game.

Kilinsmann, who hails from the same part of Germany as Klopp, applauded his former rival and highlighted the work ethic in their native region as an influential factor in the Liverpool manager’s approach.

“He’s a workaholic because that’s in our blood where we come from. He’s sponge, that always wants to learn and always wants to look at what is next…and it never gets saturated,” said Klinsmann.

“One thing is for sure he will never, ever rest. Winning the Champions League Final now, the first thought of him a day later will be, ‘how do I win this next year?’

“So he will never be satisfied…he doesn’t stop. It’s just in his nature that he always wants to keep going and going and going. He will be working on it now, how he can move the pieces to make it even better.”

The former Germany manager added: “Even before he played the final, he will have been discussing, ‘ok if I get that one more addition here, or one more there…’.”

“He constantly works on the big parcel of his roster, of his team. He will be looking at how they can improve and come back and do it again.

“It’s amazing what he’d achieved already in his coaching career, but obviously this has topped it all.

“Yet a couple of days later he will go back to business and say, “what’s next?”. That’s just his character.

“He’s just a person you want to wish him well – he puts so much energy in there, so much effort and hard work in there, on all sides of the game.

“The way he won over the people in Liverpool and the way he became one of them, it just deserves then, the end result, meaning now this very special title.

“Klopp fits Liverpool so perfectly because his background is very humble, his background it’s blue collar, hardworking, they live and die for their club and so, his whole life basically was always very, very closely connected to the people, to the neighbourhoods.”

Klinsmann also confirmed that what we see from Jurgen Klopp is what we get – there’s no falsity in the Liverpool manager’s personality.

“He’s just himself, you know. I think that’s why people really like Jurgen Klopp, because he doesn’t sell anything,” said Klinsmann.

“You know exactly what you get from him.

“So, he’s so charismatic and so straight forward and gets to the point, and he’s not losing time in whatever discussion you have with him.

“And I think that’s what people appreciate, and he’s honest, he’s honest, he’s straight out there.

“People just like him. He’s likeable you know? Because he’s so funny, so charismatic, so energetic.

“And that’s what you want from leaders, you don’t want boring leaders that always talk in the same tone, no.

“No, you want people like him saying, ‘That’s what we’re going to do now, we’re going to go out there now and we’re going to beat Barcelona .’ And then he does it.”
