Mohamed Salah Targets Premier League Glory with Liverpool in 2019-20

Having gone from second to first in Europe over the past year, Salah wants to do the same now in England.

Liverpool are Champions of Europe for the sixth time. They’ve made it to the final two seasons in a row. In England, even if they came up just short of breaking their league title drought they still managed a 97-point campaign.

And this is just the beginning. In the coming years, there will be more. More wins, more titles, more trophies. So said Mohamed Salah following last night’s victory in Madrid over Tottenham that won the Reds the Champions League.

“It’s the start of something,” said a celebratory Salah following Saturday night’s victory. “It’s just the start for us. Of course we will feel we can win it again next season. We play with ambition, we set big targets for ourselves.

“The target this year was to win the Champions League and also the Premier League. The Premier League was just one point. That was disappointing and you can’t finish your season with losing so we did everything to win the game today.”

After facing—and beating—the champions of France, Germany, Portugal, and Spain on route to the final, Liverpool dug deep and pushed their way past domestic rivals Tottenham to win the game and their sixth European Cup.

It’s very much a deserved trophy for this group, this team, and a far more fitting way to end the 2018-19 season than coming up just a point shy of Manchester City on the final day of the domestic season would have been.

It proves that this group has taken the next step in its development and belongs in the conversation as one of Europe’s best. Now, they know they belong, and they will return for next season determined to do it all over again—only better.

“We will go next season for the Premier League,” he added. “This is the first season we were fighting for the Premier League. Last year we were fighting for the Champions League, before that the Europa League.

“This is the first we fought for the Premier League and we only lost it by one point. We will be able to challenge again now. It’s a great experience for us to win a trophy, it will help us to make another step forward.”
