Watch: Captain Jordan Henderson Celebrates With His Dad In Madrid

THE BEST MOMENT, HONESTLY.

In a sea of emotional moments Saturday as Liverpool secured their sixth ever European Cup in Madrid (it doesn’t get old saying it), a couple cameras caught a tender moment with captain Jordan Henderson.

After receiving his winner’s medal, Hendo made his way to the crowd, finding his father Brian Henderson, waiting for him. They shared a long, emotional embrace, and it was (one of many) perfect encapsulations of what the moment meant to the captain after years of hard work, proving himself to managers and fans, and helping lead the team to victory.

It’s a natural reaction - searching for your parents in a moment of victory - but many of us know the moment holds another special significance for the Hendersons. Brian Henderson was diagnosed with throat cancer during the 2013-2014 season and didn’t want to tell Jordan about it while receiving treatment, so he could focus on the season at hand. Our current captain (yes I know he wasn’t captain at the time) wasn’t even allowed to see his father while he received his cancer treatments, as Liverpool were mounting a historic title challenge and Jordan was playing a pivotal role in that up until his unfortunate red card.

Our Hendo, of course, has moved up through the team to take over from Steven Gerrard as captain, and now as a legend that has also lifted the European Cup for Liverpool for a record six times. This moment with his father, though, shows how much it truly means to our lad from Sunderland who has dealt with unending criticisms in his career as he’s sacrificed everything - including his relationship with his father - in his service to the club.

I’m 100% crying, and not even mad about it. This is what it means to him, to them, to us, to everyone. As cheesy and wonderful as it is, this means more.
