Injury Update: Yasser Larouci Out For A Few Weeks

After the horror tackle from Sevilla’s Joris Gnagnon, Larouci is likely to miss the remainder of preseason.

Somehow, the “friendly” between Liverpool and Sevilla quickly descended into The Battle of Fenway, with tackles flying in, especially from the Spanish side. The referee was left in the awkward position of trying to manage a meaningless affair when one side was—bafflingly—out for blood. The way Sevilla were playing, you would have thought it was Liverpool who had recently defeated Sevilla in a European final, not the other way around.

Regardless, Sevilla were out for blood. And they got it in the 76th minute when Joris Gnagnon attempted to volley Liverpool youth player Yasser Larouci over the famed Green Monster in Boston. The ref was left with little choice but to send Gnagnon off, a rarity in preseason friendlies.

Larouci ended up being stretchered off—never a good sign—but apparently the injury isn’t as bad as originally feared. However, it is still bad enough that the player will likely miss the rest of the preseason.

“Larouci has suffered heavy bruising in his femur bone and the club’s medical team will continue to monitor the injury as it settles,” the club announced on their official website.

“However, the Reds are optimistic the 18-year-old will only be ruled out for no more than a matter of weeks.”

It is a real shame for Larouci, who was impressing at leftback during preseason, and seemed to be in with a decent shout for deputizing under Andy Robertson.

With multiple injuries sustained in the competitive and non-competive matches against Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Sevilla, maybe Liverpool need to consider additional protective equipment when playing against Spanish sides. Perhaps they can pick up some American football gear before departing back across the pond. Just a suggestion.
