Liverpool offer update on injured defender Yasser Larouci

Liverpool have provided an injury update on 18-year-old Yasser Larouci, who was at the receiving end of a brutal tackle on Sunday.

The Reds played out a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla at Fenway Park in Boston, in which Divock Origi scored Liverpool’s only goal.

The second half of the match, Larouci skipped past a couple of Sevilla challenges before being brought down by Joris Gnagnon.

Replays showed the La Liga defender swiping recklessly at Larouci’s right leg, an action that resulted in him receiving a straight red card.

Gnagnon later apologised for the challenge, which at the time incensed the Liverpool players on the pitch.

Academy graduate Larouci, who left Fenway Park on crutches, has reportedly suffered heavy bruising to his femur bone and will be monitored closely by Liverpool’s medical staff.

The club expect him to be out for “a matter of weeks”.
