Jurgen Klopp wins Coach of the Year award for third time

Jurgen Klopp has been named Coach of the Year for the third time after guiding Liverpool to their first Champions League trophy in 14 years.

The award, presented by The Association of German Sports Journalists, was given to the Reds boss after he finished 44 votes ahead of Friedhelm Funkel in second place.

The Liverpool manager also won the award in 2011 and 2012 during his time at Dortmund, and immediately attributed his success to those around him after being told he’d won it.

“I know who I owe this great award to: my team and my coaching team. Only as a collective can we achieve the successes we have achieved,” Klopp said, according to the Mirror.

“I am also happy for Friedhelm Funkel and Adi Hutter (Eintracht Frankfurt’s head coach, who came third), whose great work has been recognised.”

The award for Footballer of the Year went to Dortmund’s Marco Reus, who scored 17 goals in 27 games for the German side last season.
