Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Prepared to Pay €75M for Marco Asensio

Either the Reds are ready to spend or Madrid are trying to drive up Asensio’s selling price. We’d bet on the latter.
Real Madrid’s summer spend has already exceeded €300M, with Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, and Rodrygo all arriving—and more big names could be on the way. Which means that, sooner or later, the Spanish giants will start to sell.
As for who might be on the way out, well, today’s rumour out of Spain has the 23-year-old forward Marco Asensio as a potential target for Liverpool, with Jürgen Klopp said to be a fan of the €75M-rated attacker. There’s only one problem as El Desmarque see it.
And that problem is that Madrid want to do a deal with a buyback clause but Liverpool are adamant that it should be a permanent deal. We see another problem: a €75M price-tag on a player clearly surplus to requirements and who would be a questionable fit.
It wasn’t that long ago that Asensio was considered the future at Madrid, but his work rate has at times come in for criticism in the Spanish capital and the player’s development has clearly stagnated. At €75M, he would make for an incredibly costly gamble.
It’s also clear, despite attempts to frame him as a player Madrid don’t want to sell unless an offer they can’t turn down comes along, that Asensio is not favoured by manager Zinedine Zidane, who once mocked the player for missing a game due to a pimple.
Any talk of Madrid being maybe willing to sell for the right price but that right price being €75M and even then they want a buyback clause oh and Liverpool are totally interested, then? Any talk like that sounds a lot like Madrid trying to up his value.
Which is an entirely fair thing for them to do. But the Madrid-friendly press in Spain linking the Reds with Asensio at €75M in order to help up his value for the club doesn’t make it likely that the Reds are actually sniffing around Asensio at €75M—or at all.
For the right price his talent would make him an interesting reclamation project, but right now the price definitely isn’t right and even if it was there’s nothing here to suggest Asensio is actually a player that Liverpool would consider buying this summer.
