Injury Update: Alisson Out for 4-8 Weeks

Liverpool looking to sign Lonergan on a short-term contract
It’s worse than we were hoping for, but definitely not the worst news we could have received: Alisson is likely going to be on the sidelines for 4-8 weeks with a calf injury, per The Athletic’s James Pearce.
As things stand #LFC expecting to be without Alisson Becker for between 4 and 8 weeks depending on how quickly he heals. Club working on having Andy Lonergan on the bench for the Super Cup with Adrian starting.

Alisson went down while attempting a goal kick during Liverpool’s opener against Norwich City and the unknowns of the injury weighed heavily on both the team and fans despite a 4-1 victory against the Canaries.
Klopp weighed in on how severe he believed the injury was in his post-match interview, and it looks like his worries were proven right. While Adrian stepped up masterfully to finish the game, the Reds are still short goalkeeping options with third choice Caoimhin Kelleher currently in recovery after surgery on a broken wrist.
Per The Echo, the club is already working on reinforcements and will likely offer veteran goalkeeper Andy Lonergan a short-term contract to add a few more options to Klopp’s squad. Lonergan travelled with the Reds to the U.S. as part of their pre-season tour and featured in the first half against Sevilla. Lonergan is currently a free agent so is available to sign even after the transfer window closing.
Alisson’s absence definitely isn’t the ideal way to start the season, but hopefully Adrian is able to hold the fort for the rest of August. Liverpool will play Chelsea in the Super Cup on Wednesday, and face Southampton, Arsenal, and Burnley before the international break begins. If all goes well, Alisson will be able to return in time for the Reds to take on Newcastle on September 14th.
