Brendan Rodgers provides verdict on Liverpool’s title challenge

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Liverpool will be hard to stop in the Premier League title race this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool defeated the Foxes 4-0 at the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day. Goals to Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold proved to be the difference come the end of the clash.

Rodgers’ Leicester City, who currently sit second in the Premier League, were never in the game against Liverpool. The victory put a 13-point gap between the Reds and the Foxes.

The Leicester City boss believes Liverpool possess winners all across the pitch, and that will ultimately get the Anfield club over the line come May.

“The last two games [Man City and Liverpool] have been great benchmarks for us,” Rodgers told the media after the defeat to Liverpool.

“Because of how well we’ve done, we’ve been catapulted into this title race, but then you’ve seen in the last couple of games, the quality of the opposition we’ve played, and Liverpool were absolutely terrific.

“They are going to be very, very hard to stop. There’s no doubt. They’re a fantastic team, with confidence high. They’ve become winners now, and haven’t lost many games now over an 18-month period.

“They’ve enough players, enough experience and enough quality to stay focused and get the job done.”

The title race is far from over. We are about to enter January, meaning there is still plenty of time left. However, going by what we saw last night, it appears the Foxes won’t be challenging Liverpool.

Manchester City, who have the experience of winning the Premier League in recent times, are the only side who could posssibly catch the Reds.

The Citizens sit third in the Premier League. An away victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight would reduce the gap between Liverpool and Manchester City to 11 points.
