Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Set Dejan Lovren Asking Price

The centre half could depart before the end of the month if the latest round of rumours is true.

The transfer window may be closed for Premier League sides, but it remains open on the continent and following rumours earlier in the summer linking Dejan Lovren with a move to AC Milan or Roma, there looks a chance the centre half could soon depart.

That’s according to The Liverpool Echo, who claim that the club are seeking around €15M up front plus a further €5M in achievable add-ons that could take a potential deal to €20M, and that they have set this price in response to that Milan and Roma interest.

That it’s The Echo floating the story now would seem to add legitimacy to it, yet given there were times last season the club had to resort to playing Fabinho and Ki-Jana Hoever due to injuries, the idea of the club selling Lovren now will raise some eyebrows.

Perhaps, though, with Hoever a year older and Sepp van den Berg having been signed over the summer—and with Klopp now having had a month to watch the youngster in training—there is a belief that the club have other capable fourth-choice centre half options.

Still, with Liverpool set to compete for six trophies the rest of the way this season and both Joe Gomez and Joël Matip having a worrying injury track record, if Lovren is sold at this point it’s exceptionally easy to imagine a scenario where the club go on to regret it.
