Ryan Kent Attempting to Force Move to Rangers

Celtic v Rangers - Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership

Having had a potential Leeds move fall through, the winger is reportedly determined to return to Scotland.

The goal this summer was to find a new, permanent home for Ryan Kent, but with the transfer window closing for Premier League and Championship sides and Kent still at the club with a move to Leeds United having fallen through, that looked unlikely.

Outside the top two divisions in England, there aren’t many likely destinations for Kent, clubs that would both be interested and could afford him. And while Rangers are certainly interested, the latter—an inability to afford him—is a definite issue for them.

Still, it’s looking as though he might well end up back there if today’s news out of Scotland is true, with The Record claiming sources close to the player have told them that Kent will do what it takes to force through a return to Rangers, likely on loan.

They go so far as to say the player would “down tools,” but when you’re a player unlikely to get any first team minutes, that seems less a legitimate threat and more a kind of shorthand for just how badly the paper thinks Kent wants to reunite with Steven Gerrard.

Previously, there had been suggestions that with no takers in England, Liverpool’s asking price for Kent might have crept low enough for them to afford a permanent deal, but whether it’s on loan or permanently, Kent to Rangers seems back on.

Realistically, and all talk of downed tools aside, with no room for Kent in the Liverpool first team and no takers in the top English divisions, it was always likely to go this way as the end of August neared and with it the close of transfer windows across Europe.
