Rumor Mongering: Dejan Lovren to Bayer Leverkusen on Loan

According to reports out of Germany, Degsy could be headed to the Bundesliga with a €3 million loan fee.

It’s been a rough year and change for Dejan Lovren. After guiding Liverpool to the Champions League Final, and Croatia to the World Cup Final, the defender was right to be confident in his abilities. Sure maybe he wasn’t “one of the best defenders in the world,” but it also wasn’t so laughable.

After a year of on and off niggling injuries, Degsy couldn’t even claim to be one of the best defenders at the club. He’s currently fourth choice to play centerback, and a seemingly distant fourth choice at that.

So it’s no surprise that he’s looking for more playing time. First he was linked with AC Milan, and then to Roma in Serie A. Those deals either never materialized or broke down, and now it seems that Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are interested in his services.

According to Bild, Leverkusen are hoping to secure a €3 million loan deal for the 30-year-old defender before the European transfer window closes on September 2nd.

It doesn’t seem like the kind of offer that would force Liverpool’s hand.

It also seems like an unnecessary risk, with only youth prospects available to come into the squad in the case of an injury crisis (such as the one from last year, which forced both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson into defensive duties).

However, these kinds of rumors are persistent enough that it seems as if a move away somewhere appears likelier than not at this point.
