Rumour Mongering: Reds Checking On Chukwueze

The former Arsenal target is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar.
It’s the international break, which means Liverpool fans can switch it up from complaining about how badly the league leaders have played and how unfair it is that not all of their players can win the Ballon d’Or, to moaning about the risk of their stars returning from international duty short a cruciate ligament or two.
It’s a dreadful thing, the international break, but luckily, transfer rumours are here to tide us over. After the blatantly obvious return of Timo Werner earlier today, Metro dropped a brand new name into the Liverpool frontline backup blender, Villareal’s Samuel Chimerenka Chukwueze.
The Nigerian international has been at Estadio de la Ceramica since 2017, and has scored nine goals in all competitions for El Submarino Amarillo, largely by cutting in from his starting position wide on the right and picking out the opposite corner with his left peg. Stop us if any of this sounds familiar.
At 20, Chukwueze possesses the audacity to attempt seemingly impossible feats of dribbling on his flank, and the sticky feet to occasionally pull it off. There is little argument that the Diamond Academy youth product doesn’t get overly elaborate with his dribbling at times, and down the stretch, managers will look to improve his ability to generate consistent end product, but for now, all the tools are there to make Chukwueze an interesting prospect.
Whether there is any truth to reports that Liverpool are actively scouting the Nigerian, and whether that will translate into genuine actionable interest remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that the Reds will be looking to dip into the market again come summer, with backup — and potential long-term replacements — for the frontline high on the list of priorities. As such, Chukwueze ticks at least a couple of relevant boxes.
