58% of Man City’s 15 million Instagram followers are fake

Pep Guardiola.

A study conducted by Scottish agency Pilot Fish Media declared that 58% of Man City’s Instagram followers are fake – the most of any football club.

In an era where the Blues are universally known for their alleged financial doping and readiness to throw money at any problem, it should not come as a surprise to learn that they may have bought most of their Instagram followers.

As things stand, City are being investigated by several football associations after they were accused of using shadow firms to hide a secret investment fund used to sponsor football players’ bonuses.

On the back of that, it seems almost harmless that their Instagram account, which is followed by 15.7m accounts, is actually only really followed by 6.5m people.

Manchester City.

Liverpool’s Instagram is followed by just over 20m people and while a percentage of that is undoubtedly followed by bots and fake accounts, it seems unlikely that the Reds found it necessary to buy followers, likes or comments.

The Merseysiders are top of the Premier League, leading Pep Guardiola’s side by six points ahead of their massive clash at Anfield in 17 days’ time.

Before then, Liverpool will need to dispose of Spurs otherwise they risk going into the game with City just three points clear of their rivals.
