Borussia Dortmund tried to re-sign Jurgen Klopp
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that he tried to convince Jurgen Klopp to re-join the Bundesliga outfit in 2018.
“I knew that Jurgen would [decline], that he will fulfil his contract in Liverpool,” Watzke wrote in his new book REAL LOVE. A life with BVB.
“Jurgen has always fulfilled his contracts, but if you want to go new ways and we had to break new ground at BVB, then at least I had to ask Jurgen if he could possibly imagine that.
“I did not expect that at all, but I would not have forgiven myself for not asking him at that moment.”
Jurgen Klopp has hinted recently that he wants to take a sabbatical at the end of his Liverpool contract which expires at the end of the 2021/22 season.
What is also clear is that he won’t leave the club before his agreement with the club expires and although FSG could still convince him to extend his terms, Klopp has never spent more than seven years in charge of a single team.
The Reds are already drastically improved since he came into the job in October 2015 so it’s exciting to imagine what kind of changes will be in place in a couple years’ time.
