Jamie Carragher compares Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea teams

Reds legend Jamie Carragher believes that there are similarities between Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea sides of the past.
The Reds are currently 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at Anfield on the weekend.
If Klopp’s Liverpool continue their current form, they will claim a maiden Premier League title for the club.
Carragher believes that what Liverpool are currently producing reminds him of Mourinho’s Chelsea sides of the past, which is high praise.
“It’s almost like [Liverpool] are a machine in some ways,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I didn’t think that team was capable of getting to where they are now. I feel like I’m watching one of the teams I grew up watching like Graeme’s [Souness]. They just continually win and they are like a machine.
“If you actually speak to Liverpool supporters, probably the most exciting football was two years ago. The actual football at Leicester [a 4-0 win on Boxing Day] was amazing, but in the main, this season they just get the job done and they almost look unstoppable.

“You think about comparing them to teams and Jose’s Chelsea are an example. You can’t stop them. The pace and the power is there at this moment.
“The performance at Leicester was that message to the whole of the Premier League. I just think that would have knocked the stuffing out of anyone who thought they had a chance of coming back.
“I think Man City’s result at Wolves [a 3-2 defeat] will have had a lot to do with that [Liverpool’s win over Leicester].”
One could argue that Klopp’s Liverpool are more entertaining to watch. Mourinho’s Chelsea sides were renowned (sometimes unfairly) for siting back and absorbing pressure.
Klopp’s Liverpool certainly have the ability to do that, but they know how to win in a number of different ways.
Mourinho’s Chelsea sides could arguably do the same, but it was rarely mentioned, as many simply focussed on their ability to absorb pressure and play on the break.
Carragher’s comparison certainly has merit, but one could argue Liverpool are slightly more adventurous than any of Mourinho’s Chelsea sides of the past.
Liverpool’s next assignment in the Premier League is Sheffield United on Thursday night at Anfield.
