Virgil van Dijk highlights the difficulty of Wolves clash

Reds centre-back Virgil van Dijk has stated that Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers was a “tough” game to feature in.

The Reds defeated Wolves 1-0 on the weekend thanks to a Sadio Mane first-half strike. The victory ensured Liverpool a 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Despite Liverpool claiming all three points against Wolves, Van Dijk was full of praise for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side after the match.

“It was [tough]. Wolves are a good team, made it very difficult for us and have good players,” Van Dijk told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It’s never easy for both sides to play in the circumstances – last week and this week a lot of games, travelling for both sides.

“They made it tough for us and we’re obviously very happy that we kept the three points.

“You have to be very patient, you have to stay positive. We kept the ball for a while and were very patient, I think that’s the most important thing.

“It’s not always easy because you want to score goals as quick as possible but you had to be very patient today because they were defending well and when they had the ball they did good things as well. It was tough.”

The victory against Wolves could be defining in regards to whether the Reds claim the Premier League title or not this season.

Reigning champions Manchester City have dropped six points out of a possible six against Wolves in their 2019-20 Premier League campaign, which highlights just how good of a side they are.

The Reds are yet to travel to the Molineux this season, but that is still some time away. Liverpool’s next assignment in the Premier League is Sheffield United on Thursday night at Anfield.
