The Blades break their transfer record to bring the promising youngster to Sheffield, as the Reds get a sell-on and buyback clause included.

Liverpool have announced that Rhian Brewster has completed his move to Sheffield United, on a five-year deal. Brewster has spent five years on Merseyside, in that time making four appearances for the first team following his debut in September 2019.

The £23.5 million deal is a club-record for the Blades, who have included a 15% sell-on fee and a buy-back clause in Brewster’s contract, with the buy-back clause good for three years. This signing beats out the £22 million the Blades paid Genk for Sander Berge, who Liverpool had reportedly shown interest in.

The twenty-year-old leaves the Reds with winners’ medals from the UEFA Champions League and the Super Cup following a promising 2019/20 loan spell at Championship club Swansea City, where he scored 11 goals in 22 appearances as the Welsh side fell short of promotion.

The English youth international was United’s number one target, as manager Chris Wilder told club reporters what the youngster will add to their squad.

“At the top of the pitch we have one of the country’s hottest properties from Liverpool and for him to sign permanent here is fantastic for everyone concerned. There has been a lot of interest in him over the summer, a lot of speculation about who we were going for, but he has been our number one target and I am delighted to have secured his services.”

Brewster’s promise has only grown after the young striker came back from a horrible ankle injury in January 2018. Liverpool FC have wished him luck at his new club.
