Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Replace Man United as Favourites to Sign Jadon Sancho

If either Liverpool or Bayern Munich bid for Jadon Sancho next summer United would miss out on the young star.

We’re less than a day on from the transfer window slamming shut and already the rumour mongers looking ahead to next summer’s potential deals, with Liverpool being named the new frontrunners to sign Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United had been confident of signing the player this summer, they just made one fatal mistake—it turns out that neither the player nor selling club were anywhere near as eager to get a deal done as they were.

The result was Borussia Dortmund setting a high valuation and deadline while the player, while happy to join United, was unwilling to agitate to get a deal done. In part, according to The Independent, because of future options.

Sancho is still just 20 years of age and more than happy to continue at Dortmund for at least one more season, and according to Miguel Delany his longer term preference would be a move to Liverpool or Bayern Munich.

Neither were willing or able to pay the kind of fee Dortmund wanted this summer, giving an opening to United to win his signature. But if finances improve to the point either bid next year, then the Red Devils would miss out.

Of course, a year is an awfully long time in football, and a fee in excess of €100M a lot for Liverpool or Bayern. Still, give how confident United and their fans were of signing Sancho this summer, it’s an amusing story.
