The young midfielder’s goal won the Reds three points against Crystal Palace

It was shaping up to be another lackluster away performance for Liverpool until Harvey Elliott popped up in the 91st minute to seal the three points. His finish was excellent and the Reds needed the brilliance on the day. Elliott spoke with Liverpoolfc.com to share his thoughts on the goal, the moment, and the win.

“Merry Christmas!” the midfielder said. “It was another tough game against another tough opposition, another hard ground to come to but it’s three more points and we just need to keep building on it.”

Elliott would go on to talk about how the goal developed. Just a few minutes before his goal, Crystal Palace had to sub on their backup goalkeeper Remi Matthews after starter Sam Johnstone was injured. The appearance on Saturday was Matthews’ very first appearance in the Premier League.

“It just kept opening up nicely for me, I took a few touches and I was in and around the box and just thought, ‘Why not?’ and just hit it! I saw it hit the net and next thing I knew I was off on my knees! It was a great feeling for me but now we need to build on it and keep taking these opportunities and keep scoring more.”

The young Liverpool midfielder’s goal is what sealed the three points for Liverpool, but he wasn’t quick to take all the credit for the goal and win.

“We defend as a team and attack as a team to get these results, and to get where we want to in this league we need to do the dirty work. But once again I think we showed that resilience and determination to come back, especially with our fans who are always behind us. It’s great to have such supportive fans and cheering us on throughout the whole game, and hopefully we have sent them all home happy.”
