The Liverpool manager enjoyed Sunday’s mad 4-3 win in the end but would have preferred not needing a comeback.

Jürgen Klopp’s passionate fist pumps as he and his players celebrated a late and unlikely 4-3 comeback victory over struggling Fulham showed how much Sunday’s victory meant to the Liverpool manager.

Following the match, though, he said that he would have rather the team hadn’t put itself in the position of needing two late goals to salvage the victory and keep pace in the 2023-24 Premier League title race.

“The feeling after the game was exceptional,” he noted. “During the game, it was slightly different. I told the boys after the game, the game turned out as the game we saw because we were a bit dumb.

“We started really well, scored a goal. Then we were still playing, but the protection was not that good anymore. That’s why I said to the boys at half-time, that this score is deserved but it shouldn’t be like that.”

After going up 1-0 then 2-1 thanks to a pair of world class goals by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool again allowed Fulham to level before the break and looked wobbly until the whistle.

Then, in the 80th minute, they went behind 2-3 and appeared set to lose points—with the only question if they could perhaps salvage a draw. Instead, they got two more world class goals and the victory.

“I don’t think anybody would have thought before the game Liverpool vs. Fulham will be a game you never forget,” he added. “But you’re welcome. Whoever was here today will never forget it in their lives.”
