Arsenal have struggled with the noise in the past

Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool’s match against Arsenal, head coach Jürgen Klopp had some choice words to say about the Anfield atmosphere during the 5-1 Carabao Cup win midweek:

“I thought in the first half when the boys played really exceptionally. It was a long time ago now, but I have to say I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me. I asked people what do they want?

“If I was in the stands I would be on my toes, 1000 percent. I don’t know if the Manchester United game was that bad that we have to say sorry we didn’t smash them.”

Putting his comments in context, Klopp noted that the Reds will “need Anfield on Saturday” for Arsenal, going so far as to say: “If you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else.”

For his part, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta did not get involved in what the Liverpool Echo’s James Quinlan has referred to as “mind games,” refusing to answer related questions in his own press conference:

“I don’t know [why Klopp said that] — that is a question for him. We have to prepare to play and be better than them and focus on our supporters — they will always support the team. I have to think about the team and we are preparing to win it.”

Regardless, the support will most certainly play a part in Saturday’s top of the table clash — and hopefully a positive part.
