The Reds have the honor of hosting the first Premier League match of the new calendar year, and to do so by starting the match top of the pops. Liverpool can move three points clear of the next challenger, (checks notes) Aston Villa, with a win tonight. Their opponents, the PR wing of the Saudi sportswashing project, Newcastle United, have been pretty dire on the road so far this season. However, Liverpool’s recent history of dramatic, late winners against the Magpies will certainly make make them more motivated to finally get one over on the Reds.
