An injury crisis has forced the recall, at least temporarily, of 21-year-old Owen Beck from Scottish side Dundee FC.

Liverpool are currently without both starting left back Andrew Robertson and backup Kostas Tsimikas, with the club hopeful of Robertson’s return this month while Tsimikas is expected to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

As a result, Scottish Premiership side Dundee FC today announced that Liverpool had recalled 21-year-old left back Owen Beck, who has started 18 of 21 games while on loan and has been one of Dundee’s players of the season so far.

The move has led to mixed reactions amongst Liverpool fans, with some concerned Beck’s recall could signal a longer than expected layoff for Robertson, but by most reliable reports the move is largely meant to provide short-term cover.

In the short-term, Joe Gomez is expected to continue to cover on the left and if Robertson is able to return as expected this month it is likely Beck would depart again—possibly returning to Scotland—towards the end of January.

Liverpool have just three Premier League games in January—on the 1st, 21st, and 31st—but they do have FA and League Cup ties in the mix and, until Robertson does return, will need more options than Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
