The former Liverpool Academy player was released by the club earlier this summer, and has now found a home back in Germany with the Hanover 96 U23s.

Like so many of the bigger clubs, Liverpool look to snap up as many of the bright talents to stock their Academy. As we have seen time and time again, it is sadly a bit of a numbers game. While you can identify players with physical attributes and talent, it is neigh unto impossible to predict who will ultimately make the break through to the senior level.

One of those bright talents, Melkamu Frauendorf, was released by Liverpool earlier this summer after four years with the club. Frauendorf joined the Reds from Hoffenheim at just 16 years of age, and the midfielder moved his way through the Academy ranks. He made two senior team appearances for Liverpool, both in cup matches. Unfortunately, a series of injuries sidelined him for much of the past season, and others passed him by.

It did not take long for Frauendorf to find a new home, thankfully. The German youth international has signed up with 2. Bundesliga side Hanover 96, though he will initially play with the U23 side in the 3. Bundesliga. Hannover sporting director Marcus Mann believes this will be a great chance for Frauendorf to play his way into senior team contention as he works his way back from injury.

“With the U23s’ promotion to the 3rd division, we were able to show [Frauendorf] a way to find his way into men’s football in Germany and prove himself at a good level. f he succeeds, the door is open for him, as it is for everyone, to slide into the top.”

Frauendorf is excited for the chance to step back out on the pitch and prove himself with his new club. Starting off playing against senior teams in the 3. Bundesliga is a good opportunity to show his abilities and help his career progress.

“I am very happy about the chance to be back in Germany and to have the opportunity to play in the 3rd division at Hannover 96. The prospects that 96 can offer a young player with first-class conditions in the academy and of course due to the constellation with the U23s in the 3rd division are very exceptional compared to the other clubs in Germany.”
