Liverpool have won 11 of 12 games under Arne Slot, now the goal is avoiding complacency and maintaining focus.

Liverpool have won 11 of their first 12 games under new head coach Arne Slot, sitting first in the Premier League, a perfect 3-0 in the Champions League, and having passed their first test in the League Cup with the sole blemish a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The performances by and large have been of high quality, and on the handful of occasions they haven’t been at their best they’ve still managed to find the result. Now, forward Cody Gakpo says the goal is avoiding complacency and maintaining their focus as a group.

“We started off very well but there’s a few more matches so we are not done yet and have to stay focused,” was his understated response when asked about Liverpool’s form following Wednesday night’s 1-0 victory on the road at Bundesliga table toppers RB Leipzig.

It was a win spoke to both the increasingly controlled side the Reds have become under Slot as well as their ability to find results, being dominant for most of the night but without the security of a second goal and needing some key late saves to preserve the victory.

“I think that’s most important,” Gakpo added of the ability to salvage results. “Obviously you can play well but against a good opponent maybe they have some good moments so it’s about not conceding at those times. We should have scored more, but a win is a win.”
