Liverpool Reportedly Close to Agreeing New Deals for Konate and Quansah
While new deals for Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold show no significant progress there had been movement on contracts for Konate and Quansah.
When it comes to Liverpool and news of new contracts in the works for the club’s existing stars, the only names most fans really want to hear good news about are captain Virgil van Dijk, superstar Mohamed Salah, and homegrown creation king Trent Alexander-Arnold.
On that front, if there is to be good news it will have to wait at least a little while longer. However, according to The Times’ Paul Joyce, there has been significant movement of late towards getting defenders Ibrahima Konaté and Jarell Quansah on new, long-term deals.
The 25-year-old Konaté and 21-year-old Quansah have deals running through 2026 and 2027, respectively, so both in what would be considered the natural window for extending player contracts—something the club seem to have mishandled in the three headline cases.
That means that even if it isn’t the contract news many would have been hoping to see drop during the October international break, it’s still very much good news and hopefully avoids the club getting into a similar position with two more key players at this time next season.
Quansah broke into the first team last season and started game one of the 2024-25 campaign alongside Van Dijk in the heart of defence but Konaté has since reclaimed that role for himself. Both are expected to be important players for the club in the coming years.
