A look back at the key moments in Liverpool’s controlled, professional victory over Newcastle United in Premier League action.

Liverpool FC 2 - 0 Newcastle Team

Reds: Player Szoboszlai 11’, Mac Allister 63’
Saudi FC: N/A

Pre-Match

Diogo Jota returns to the starting lineup, and leads the line against Newcastle. Kostas Tsimikas also comes in for Andy Robertson. It is a strong lineup, with Arne Slot being the biggest noticeable absence.

First Half

It doesn’t take long for The Reds to take the lead! Luis Diaz drives into the box and picks out Szoboszlai around the penalty spot. Dom nutmegs two defenders with his shot, and also past the outstretched arms of the keeper.

Newcastle have started coming into the game as the second half progresses, helped, no doubt, by Stuart Attwell, who is apparently incapable of seeing fouls against Liverpool players, allowing the visitors to be at their brutish best (or worst).

Liverpool see out the half without much happening, which is completely fine, all things considered. Newcastle managed just one speculative effort from just inside the area.

Second Half

It’s a bit of a rocky start for Liverpool in the second half. Newcastle’s aggression, paired with Attwell’s “let the game flow” attitude, is decidedly helping out the visitors.

Gakpo comes on for Jota on the hour mark, and Liverpool almost immediately cut through the Newcastle defense and score a second! Granted, it has nothing to do with Gakpo, but still! Mac Allister drives into the box, lays it off for Mo, and Salah plays it right back to Alexis, who smashes it into the top corner! Another assist for Mo, who is inching closer to the all-time assists record.

Liverpool bring on their Endo victory cigar and Quansah, on for Gravenberch and Alexander-Arnold, respectively. With a few minutes left in regulation time Nunez and Jones come on for Diaz and Mac Allister. Dom might literally just drop dead on the pitch. It was a good run, Dom.

Final Thoughts

Liverpool go 13 clear at the top after Arsenal draw away to Nottingham Forest. It means that Liverpool need just 21 points to wrap up the league in the 10 remaining matches. It’s getting close, y’all.
